The redesigned 2025 Volkswagen Tiguan marks the dawning of a new era for this compact SUV thanks to more power, sleeker looks, and its loss of third-row seating. With a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine making 201 hp—17 more than before, the new Tiguan benefits from a lighter frame, too, shedding as much as 170 pounds through the use of aluminum and high-strength steel. The combination is designed to deliver a lighter, nimbler driving experience while also boosting efficiency irresistible qualities for VW fans.
Based on VW’s MQB Evo platform that also underpins the Audi A3 and VW GTI also, the Tiguan adopts a more athletic character featuring the new platform, with improved chassis and muscle stability. Volkswagen’s 4Motion all-wheel drive provides a stable balance, allowing the Tiguan to serve purposes from city to back country. While some may resent the loss of three rows, passengers in the new fixed 60/40 bench in row two will appreciate extra legroom along with added comfort.
The refreshed Tiguan offers an updated exterior, a good mix of VW’s traditional conservative look with more contemporary elements. Bolder stance courtesy of new front and rear LED light bars, and fresh wheel designs up to 20 inches. Those playfully named colors, Avocado Green Pearl, Sandstone Uni and Monterey Blue Pearl — dress the Tiguan in its skin-tight bodysuit of toned muscles.
The interior of the 2025 Tiguan feels considerably more upscale relative to the larger model or actually any other VW, with that Audi-like cabin feel coming along too. Dominating the dashboard is a grand 15-inch touchscreen (12.9 inches on standard trims) running VW’s latest MIB4 infotainment system. Moving the gear selector over to the steering column opens up precious console real estate and presents a tidy, functional layout. Inside, the Tiguan makes extensive use of high-quality materials, including walnut wood accents and Savona leather on select trims.
Volkswagen wants a high-tech experience and has incorporated a feature with adjustable available ambient lighting dubbed “Atmospheres,” which will also pair to distinct audio profiles. Rotary control dial in the center console makes it easy to change volume and switch between drive modes and Atmospheres settings, providing a seamless interface that feels fresh and natural. And VW’s new “Digital Cockpit Pro” gauge cluster also gives the driver even greater control and feels great in use.
Special priority is placed on comfort and convenience, such as wireless smartphone charging, two-zone automatic climate control, and optional heated and ventilated seats. A 12-speaker Harman Kardon premium audio system is included on upper trims, while the rear seats can be optioned with a massage function and wrapped in quilted leather for those who want to ride in positional comfort.
The 2025 Tiguan maintains its high safety score, adding a total of ten airbags and IQ. Level 2 driver assistance features from DRIVE These are Travel Assist for semi-automated driving, Forward Collision Warning, Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Assist. But the new Tiguan takes an extra step in the right direction by including four additional airbags as well, earning it one of the highest overall scores for safety and a great family vehicle.
The 2025 Tiguan is poised to remain a contender in the compact SUV space. That would be the Mazda CX-5, Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V and Ford Escape; VW is making it a distinct point of emphasis with its refinement, performance and safety. Pricing hasn’t been announced, but the improvements indicate this won’t be a half-hearted effort on Volkswagen’s part when it comes to maintaining the Tiguan’s popularity.
